I’m not sure what kind of flower this is exactly but judging from the 5 foot stalks as well as the leaves I’d say it must be some kind of Heliconia. At my neighbourhood flower market they sold them (for 50 cents a stalk) as “Banana Flowers". I bought 3, and together with a couple of real banana leaves from the garden I had a very cheap, highly dramatic and very BIG flower arrangement that lasted more than 2 weeks!


The colours of the flower are as close to real life as I could make them, but for the banana leaves I’m afraid I went a bit bonkers; I wanted something different from all those red-green combinations I’ve been doing lately.
